Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings by 4 wickets in sixth match of the IPL 2024.

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, Punjab Kings (PBKS) managed to post a total of 176/6 in 20 overs. Mohammed Siraj provided the early breakthrough for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by dismissing Bairstow after conceding back-to-back boundaries.

Yash Dayal, swinging the new ball, maintained pressure with tight bowling. Prabhsimran Singh and Dhawan formed a fifty partnership at a decent rate before Maxwell dismissed Prabhsimran. Livingstone, batting at number four, managed to strike a couple of boundaries off Maxwell’s bowling.

However, Alzarri Joseph’s hard-length delivery removed Livingstone, followed by Dhawan falling to Maxwell in the very next over, marking Maxwell’s second victim of the innings. At 98/4 in the 13th over, Punjab had two new batsmen at the crease, while RCB bowled well despite Curran and Jitesh forging a half-ton partnership. Despite an impressive penultimate over by Siraj, Alzarri conceded 20 runs off the final over, courtesy of some big hits by Shashank Singh.

In chase, RCB encountered an early setback when Faf du Plessis departed after getting out for mere three runs, dismissed by Rabada. However, fortune favored Virat Kohli, who received a second chance when Bairstow dropped him at 0. Kohli, capitalizing on this opportunity, showcased his prowess by crafting a brilliant innings, eventually amassing an impressive 77 runs.

Despite facing some turbulence in the middle overs, RCB found stability through the partnership of Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror, who came in as an impact player. Their aggressive batting approach proved pivotal in steering the team closer to victory.

Notably, Harpreet Brar’s economical bowling earlier in the match had kept the contest finely balanced, creating pressure on RCB’s batting lineup. However, explosive contributions from Lomror and Karthik shifted the momentum back in RCB’s favor, ultimately securing a thrilling win with four balls to spare and RCB defeated PBKS by 4 wickets.
