IPL 2024: Most runs, most wickets after Match 7, CSK vs GT
Chennai Super Kings hammered Gujarat Titans by 63 runs in Match No. 7 of IPL 2024.
Left-handed batter Rachin Ravindra started with a bang and hard hitter Shivam Dube gave the finishing touch as defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a huge total of 206/6 against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match No. 7 of the Indian Premier League 2024 in Chennai on March 26.
CSK opener Ravindra made full use of the powerplay as he smashed 46 runs off 20 balls, while left-handed batter Dube, who is a nightmare for spinners, then used his long levers to hammer 51 runs off 23 deliveries to help five-time champions CSK reach 200+ runs against GT.
Meanwhile, newly-appointed skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 46 off 36 balls, producing another impactful batting performance by the side on a hard, bouncy track that was on offer. Sameer Rizvi (14 off 6 balls), also hammered Rashid Khan (2/49 in 4 overs) for two sixes to make a statement on IPL debut.
For GT, apart from Rashid Khan’s two-wickets, left-arm spinner Sai Kishore (1/28), pacer Spencer Johnson (1/35) and veteran Mohit Sharma (1/36) took one each against CSK.
In their defense, CSK got off to a good start with their ace pacer Deepak Chahar picking up two big fish in the powerplay. In the third over of the second innings, he dismissed Titans skipper Shubman Gill, who scored eight runs and in the fifth over he took the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha (21 runs) and dented GT’s chase.
Inside 12 overs, GT lost two more batters, Vijay Shankar (12 runs off 12 balls) and David Miller (21 runs off 16 balls), as last year’s runners-up just added 96 runs. In the 15th over of the chase, Matheesha Pathirana ended Sai Sudarshan’s struggle at the crease, with him scoring 37 runs off 31 deliveries.
In the end, the Titans kept losing wickets at regular intervals, as five-time champions CSK won their second consecutive game in the cash-rich league. They crushed Gill’s GT by 63 runs.
