SRH hammered MI by 31 runs in the IPL 2024 match which saw a total of 523 runs.
Many records were shattered as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) went on a to post the all-time highest IPL total of 277-3 against five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) before hammering them by 31 runs in at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 27.
SRH opener Travis Head (62 off 24) and No. 3 Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) came up with a stunning display of batting that saw Sharma snatching the franchise record for the fastest fifty from the Australian opener within minutes against MI.
Star batter Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34 balls) provided the support in the end to help the Hyderabad-based franchise break RCB’s all time record. The previous highest total in the IPL was 263-5 achieved by Royal Challengers Bangalore (now known as Royal Challengers Bengaluru) back in the 2013 edition.
MI looked to get the chase done thanks to the heroics of Tilak Varma, who made a crucial 64 off 34 balls at his home ground, with other batters like Ishan Kishan and Tim David chipping in with runs.
But, the Pat Cummins-led bowling attack shone by giving no pace and keeping the scoring rate in check in the middle overs to restrict MI to 246/5. A record 38 sixes were plundered in the game and it was the first time 500 runs were scored in a T20 match.
