IPL 2024: MS Dhoni will bat and hit last ball for six in DC vs CSK clash, claims Michael Hussey

MS Dhoni is yet to bat for CSK in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Michael Hussey, a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon and the current batting coach, made a daring prediction for MS Dhoni ahead of the huge IPL 2024 showdown against the Delhi Capitals (DC). Dhoni, who stepped down as captain this season, is yet to bat despite his team winning the first two games of the season.

At 42, the legendary great has impressed with his wicket-keeping talents behind the stumps, but he is yet to hit his bat in the middle. CSK beat GT by 63 runs on Tuesday and have two wins in as many games.

“My prediction for the last over of the match is that MS Dhoni will be batting. The crowd will be roaring and MSD will hit a six to finish the match,” Michael Hussey said in the video released by IPL’s official social media page.

CSK are on a winning trend, having won their opening two matches and retaining their supremacy at home. Hussey emphasized the team’s resolve to deliver an outstanding performance and continue their winning streak.

“They’re going to be desperate. They’re going to be looking to play a great match. We all start on zero and try and put in another good performance against Delhi. Yeah, but I think if we can just focus really well on our game and try and execute our skills as best we can, then hopefully it gives us a good chance to get the result we’re after,” Hussey said.

I would like to see Rishabh Pant hitting a boundary off the last ball to win the game for Delhi: Ricky Ponting

Meanwhile, DC’s head coach, Ricky Ponting, expects skipper Rishabh Pant to take leadership and seal the victory for his team. Pant, who returned to competitive cricket after a 14-month break, has already scored 46 runs in two matches.

“What would I like to see? I would like to see Rishabh Pant on strike in the last over, Delhi with 12 to win and Rishabh hitting a boundary off the last ball to win the game for Delhi. I mean, that’d be the story that a lot of people would like to see. That’s the story that the DC fans would like to see. And I’m sure there’s the opposite story for the CSK fans,” Ponting said.

DC have lost both of their matches in IPL 2024 thus far, but Ponting expressed the team’s enthusiasm for the tough challenge that awaits them against CSK in the upcoming match.

“If you watched us train today, you would think that we’d won our first two games. It’s a great challenge for us and one that I know that me and the coaching staff are excited about. But all the players are really excited about it as well.

You don’t want to lose any games, let alone lose two in a row at the start of the tournament. So, we understand the importance of this game, obviously. CSK are a very good team. They’ve won their first couple of games. They won the championship last year, so I think for us right now, the bigger the challenge is probably the better for us,” Ponting said.

DC and CSK will clash in Vizag on March 31, 2024.
