IPL 2024: 'MS Dhoni promised me...' pitch invader makes huge claim

MS Dhoni played all games for CSK in IPL 2024 despite facing injury issues.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 was all about former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni. Despite facing injury issues, the wicket-keeper batter made sure to play all the games of the Super Kings.

Ahead of the 2024 edition, Dhoni made a huge call to give up CSK captaincy and hand it over to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Following the switch, CSK won seven league games out of seven and failed to qualify for the playoffs, in what looks like to be a transition phase for the franchise.

CSK fans showed incredible support for Dhoni across all eight venues that the IPL 2023 champions played, as many fans turned up in large to showcase their love for the five-time winning IPL captain Dhoni.

In the IPL 2024 edition, Dhoni batted at lower order as he was constantly facing injury issues. The 42-year-old scored 161 runs in 14 games at a stunning average of 53.67. Dhoni once again showcased his finishing skills in the 2024 season.

During Dhoni’s legendary career, many supporters have come in to showcase their love and support for Thala in the stadium. However, few fans also invaded the pitch to meet the cricketing icon. 

In the IPL 2024, a similar incident happened during the match between the Gujarat Titans and CSK at the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 10, where a die-hard fan of Dhoni jumped the boundary ropes and tried to meet the wicketkeeper batter Dhoni.

The fan straight away ran towards Dhoni, who was then batting. However, the former Chennai skipper was trying to avoid him in a playful manner by running away from him.

The pitch invader has opened up about the incident. He also revealed Dhoni asked him why he was breathing heavily. Then the fan told him about a problem with his nose, and then the legendary cricketer said that he would take care of his surgery.

“When I saw him, I tried to surrender. I raised my hand in delight and chased him. Mahi bhai said ‘I am trying to have fun here’,” the fan claimed during his interaction with Focussed Indian.

“I went mad. I touched his feet. He is a legend, I had tears in my eyes. He asked me why I was breathing heavily. I had jumped the fence, ran onto the pitch and I was breathing heavily. I told him about a problem with my nose,” the fan said.

However, Dhoni replied: ‘I will take care of your surgery. Don’t worry. I will not let anything happen to you’.” the fan added.
