IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians rope in Harvik Desai as Vishnu Vinod's replacement for the remainder of the tournament
Mumbai Indians will clash with RCB on April 11, 2024 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Harvik Desai, the Saurashtra wicket-keeper batter, has been roped in as a replacement for Vishnu Vinod by Mumbai Indians (MI) for the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
As per the official IPL statement, Vishnu Vinod has been ruled out due to a forearm injury. Harvik Desai is anticipated to join the MI camp shortly after their fifth league stage encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) later tonight.
“Wicket-keeper batter Vishnu Vinod has been ruled out of the remainder of the TATA IPL 2024 owing to an injury to his forearm. The Mumbai Indians have signed Saurashtra wicket-keeper batter Harvik Desai as a replacement. The 24-year-old Harvik has a century in all three formats of the game and was a member of the India U19 team that won the World Cup in 2018,” the official IPL statement read.
Desai, who was part of India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning group in 2018, has emerged as one of the best wicket-keeper batters in domestic cricket in recent years. He has scored centuries in all three domestic cricket formats.
Harvik made his domestic debut across formats in the 2018-19 season and averages over 30 at a healthy strike-rate of 134.17 in T20s.
Mumbai Indians to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium
MI, who registered their first win in IPL 2024 after defeating Delhi Capitals, will look to continue their winning ways as they will host RCB at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 11, 2024.
RCB will also be looking for a win to get their campaign on track as they have only one win from five matches. They are slotted at the ninth spot on the IPL 2024 points table.
