Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Punjab Kings to register their third win of the IPL 2024.

In match No. 23 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) 20-year-old all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy showed class with a crucial half-century, which lifted the visitors to a competitive total of 182/9 in 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh  on April 9.

Reddy played a blistering knock of 64 runs and added a crucial 50-run partnership with Abdul Samad, who scored 25 runs in 12 balls. However, other Hyderabad batters failed to register a fifty in their first innings. For hosts, Arshdeep Singh (4/29) was the standout bowler, but they couldn’t stop Hyderabad from scoring over 175 runs.

While chasing 183, PBKS were off to a horrible start as they lost their skipper Shikhar Dhawan (14), Jonny Bairstow (0), and Parbhsimran Singh (4) inside the first six overs. Punjab crawled to 27/3 in powerplay. All-rounder Sam Curran played a gritty knock of 29 runs before pacer T Natarajan took his wicket in the 10th over. The hosts reached 58/4 in 10 overs.

However, Sikander Raza and Shashank Singh stitched a 33-run partnership before pacer Jaydev Unadkat removed Raza for 28 runs in the 14th over.

Towards the end, Shashank (46*) and Ashutosh Sharma (33*) played some stunning strokes as they added a 66-run partnership for the seventh wicket, but they couldn’t help hosts cross the finish line as they felt short by two runs.
