IPL 2024: Updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple Cap after Match 34 LSG vs CSK
Lucknow Super Giants won the 34th match of the IPL 2024 against Chennai Super Kings by 8 wicket.
The 34th match of IPL 2024 was played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 19. The match was hosted at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
KL Rahul of LSG won the toss and chose to bowl first. CSK lost Rachin Ravindra for a golden duck against Mohsin Khan. Then Ruturaj Gaikwad (17) and Ajinkya Rahane (36) returned to the pavilion after a brief partnership. Following their dismissals, CSK lost two quick wickets: Shivam Dube (3) and Sameer Rizvi (1). Ravindra Jadeja (57*) and Moeen Ali (30) scored 51 runs for the sixth wicket. However, MS Dhoni’s 9-ball 28* cameo at the end propelled CSK to 176/6 in 20 overs.
In response, Quinton de Kock (54) and KL Rahul (82) added 134 runs for the first wicket to put LSG in the driver’s seat. The duo effortlessly carved the CSK bowlers to all parts of the Lucknow ground. De Kock hit five fours and one six, while Rahul hammered nine fours and three sixes in his innings. After their dismissals, Nicholas Pooran (23*) and Marcus Stoinis (8*) completed an easy 8-wicket win for LSG who ended on 180/2 with one over to spare.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:
LSG, despite the 8-wicket win didn’t get much out of the game in terms of NRR, which improved to 0.123, but they now have eight points to their name. They also remain in fifth spot in the IPL 2024 points table. CSK, on the other hand, also remain in third spot in the points table with an NRR of 0.529.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) continue to remain the No.1 team in the points table with 12 points in seven games with six wins. Kolkata Knight Riders, who lost their last game to RR, are second with eight points in six games with four wins.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap):
Virat Kohli leads the IPL 2024 most runs list for the Orange Cap. He has single-handedly saved the face of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scoring 361 runs in seven matches, including one century and two fifties. Riyan Parag of RR takes second place with 318 runs, three fifties and a strike rate of 161.42.
In third place is Rohit Sharma, who has 297 runs in seven matches, including one century and a strike rate of 164.08. Fourth place belongs to LSG captain KL Rahul, who now has 281 runs in seven matches with a strike rate of 142.63. Completing the top five is Sunil Narine of Kolkata Knight Riders, who has 276 runs with one ton, one fifty and a strike rate of 187.25.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap):
Jasprit Bumrah is leading the list for the most wickets in IPL 2024 in the race for the Purple Cap. He has 13 wickets at an economy rate of 6.07. Yuzvendra Chahal of RR is in second spot with 12 wickets to his name with an economy of 8.34. The third spot in the race for most wickets belongs to Gerald Coetzee with 11 wickets to his name.
CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman picked one wicket against LSG and now has 11 wickets to his name in six games. This has pushed Khaleel Ahmed to the No. 5 spot with 10 wickets from seven games.
