IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 49 CSK vs PBKS

PBKS hammered defending champions CSK by seven wickets in match No. 49 of the IPL 2024.
After losing the toss and then being asked to bat first at home, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) managed to post only 162/7 in 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match No. 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 played at the MA Chidambaram stadium on April 30. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad top-scored for the hosts with a solid knock of 62 runs.
Ajinkya Rahane (29), Sameer Rizvi (21), Moeen Ali (15) and MS Dhoni (14) also contributed with the bat as the hosts went past 160 runs on a slow Chennai wicket. With the ball for PBKS, the spin duo of Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar picked two wickets each. While ace pacers Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh scalped one wicket each.
While chasing 163, Punjab openers Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow scored 13 and 46 respectively as visitors reached 96/2 in the first 10 overs in response to CSK’s first innings total.
However, overseas batter Rilee Rossouw (23-ball 43), Shashank Singh (25*), and skipper Sam Curran (26*) guided the visitors to a comfortable seven-wicket win. With this win, Punjab have kept their hopes alive to reach the IPL 2024 playoffs.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:

Despite losing the game against PBKS, CSK stayed firm at the fourth position on the table. Meanwhile, PBKS jumped two spots up and are now placed seventh on the IPL 2024 standings with eight points and NRR of -0.062.
Rajasthan Royals, who have 16 points to their name, still lead the table. Kolkata Knight Riders and Lucknow Super Giants occupy the second and third spot on the list. Sunrisers Hyderabad are slotted fifth, while Delhi Capitals are slotted sixth on the points table. Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru occupy the last three spots.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)

After the end of match No. 49, there is only one change in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap Leaderboard.
Chennai captain Gaikwad, who played a crucial innings of 62 runs, dethroned Virat Kohli for the Orange Cap with 509 runs. Kohli is now placed second with 500 runs. Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan is placed third with 418 runs. Lucknow Super Giants’ KL Rahul and Delhi Capitals’ Rishabh Pant are placed fourth and fifth with 406 and 398 runs respectively.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)

After a low-scoring match between CSK and PBKS, no changes were seen in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap leaderboard. Jasprit Bumrah still continues to lead the chart with 14 wickets. While CSK’s Mustafizur Rahman is placed second with 14 wickets and will end the tournament with same number of wickets as he will fly back to home after this game.
PBKS’ Harshal Patel is third with 14 wickets. CSK’s Matheesha Pathirana, who didn’t play the game due to a niggle, continues to be on the fourth position with 13 wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals completes the list of top five with 13 wickets.
