IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 55, MI vs SRH
MI still have slim chance of making it to IPL 2024 playoffs after defeating SRH in match No. 55.
In match No. 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Mumbai Indians (MI) restricted Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a below-par total of 173/8 in 20 overs at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on May 6. While chasing, Suryakumar Yadav smashed an unbeaten century, which guided the hosts to a seven-wicket victory.
After being asked to bat first, Hyderabad kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Opener Travis Head (48) and Nitish Reddy (20) and skipper Pat Cummins (35*) contributed with the bat as the visitors crossed 170-mark in the first innings.
For MI, skipper Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla scalped three wickets each. While Anshul Kamboj and Jasprit Bumrah took one wicket each. While chasing 174, hosts lost three quick wickets of – Ishan Kishan (9), Rohit Sharma (4), and Naman Dhir (0) inside the first six overs.
However, Suryakumar Yadav dismantled the Hyderabad bowling line-up as he hammered an unbeaten 102. He along with Tilak Varma (37*) stitched a match-winning partnership of 143 runs in just 79 deliveries as the hosts won the must-win match by seven wickets. With this victory, Pandya-led Mumbai kept their slim chances alive for the IPL 2024 playoffs.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:
After a win against SRH, MI jumped to ninth spot in the IPL 2024 standings, while Gujarat Titans dropped down to the tenth position, who were positioned ninth before the game. Meanwhile, even after losing the game, SRH didn’t drop a position on the table, but their NRR took a massive hit.
SRH are currently at fourth spot with 12 points and NRR of -0.065. Kolkata Knight Riders still lead the table with 16 points and NRR of 1.453. Following closely are Rajasthan Royals with 16 points and NRR of 0.622.
Chennai Super Kings are placed third with 12 points and NRR of 0.700. Lucknow and Delhi occupy fifth and sixth positions with 12 and 10 points respectively. Bottom four of the table consists of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, who all have eight points with NRR only being the difference.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)
After Monday’s MI vs. SRH clash, there is just one change in the Orange Cap Leaderboard. Hyderabad opener Travis Head, who smashed 48 runs, jumped to the fourth spot with 444 runs to his name.
Meanwhile, RCB opener Virat Kohli continues to stay at the top with 542 runs. Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kolkata opener Sunil Narine remained at the second and third positions respectively. Gaikwad has 541 runs while Narine has scored 461 runs till now.
Following’s Head’s knock against MI, Lucknow skipper KL Rahul dropped to the fifth spot with 431 runs to his name.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)
After match No. 55 between MI and SRH, Jasprit Bumrah extended his lead at the top position in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap leaderboard with one wicket in the game.
Punjab Kings’ Harshal Patel is slotted next with 17 wickets. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy is third with 16 wickets. SRH’s T Natarajan and PBKS’ Arshdeep Singh with 15 wickets each find themselves at fourth and fifth spots respectively.
