IPL 2024 points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 56, DC vs RR

Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by 20 runs to keep their hopes alive for the IPL 2024 playoffs.

Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 56th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This match took place on May 7, 2024, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sanju Samson, the RR captain, won the toss and decided to bowl first. DC openers Abishek Porel (65 in 36 balls) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (50 in 20 balls) combined for 60 in 4.2 overs to get their team off to a flying start.

Then RR struck back, taking the wickets of the openers, Shai Hope (1), Axar Patel (15), and Rishabh Pant (15), and DC seemed set to end with less than 200 runs in their 20 overs. However, Tristan Stubbs (41 in 20 balls) and Gulbadin Naib (19) helped DC finish with a score of 221/8 in 20 overs. R Ashwin with 3/24 was the pick of RR bowlers.

In response, Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to score and was out for four, while Jos Buttler was dismissed for 19 runs. Sanju Samson led the chase with a magnificent 86 in 46 balls, including eight fours and six sixes.

However, his dismissal in the 16th over marked the end of RR’s attempt to pursue the massive score. Mukesh Kumar bowled a slow length ball, and as Sanju pushed it towards long on, Shai Hope rushed in for a superb catch near the boundary.

The fight in the RR ceased when he got out. The final nail in the coffin was Rovman Powell’s wicket, and RR could only score 201/8 in 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the Player of the Match for his 2/25, with both wickets coming in the 18th over.

IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:

Thanks to this victory, DC have moved to the 5th spot of the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points to their name. They have 6 wins from 12 matches and an NRR of -0.316. RR, on the other hand, were undefeated in the whole month of April, and now lost two consecutive matches. However, they remain in the 2nd position with 16 points to their name in 11 matches with 8 wins and 3 losses and an NRR of 0.476.

Kolkata Knight Riders remain at the top of the IPL 2024 points table with 16 points to their name as well, but a very good NRR of 1.453. Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are at No. 3 and 4 respectively with 6 wins each from 11 matches.

IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)

RR captain Sanju Samson was on fire when he was at the crease for RR in this encounter. He scored a brilliant 86 runs with eight fours and six sixes and this knock propelled his run tally in IPL 2024 to 471 runs in 11 matches. This has helped him move to the No. 3 spot in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap race for most runs.

Virat Kohli continues to remain No. 1 with 542 runs in 11 matches, closely followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has 541 runs to his name from 11 games. Kohli has hit one century and 4 fifties with a strike rate of 148.08, while Gaikwad has also hit one ton and 4 fifties with a strike rate of 147.01.

The fourth spot is occupied by Sunil Narine with 461 runs in 11 matches with one century and 3 fifties and a strike rate of 183.66. Travis Head completes the top five with 444 runs in 10 games with one century and 3 fifties and a strike rate of 189.74.

IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)

Following the match between DC and RR, there is no change to the top five of the IPL 2024 Purple Cap race for the most wickets. Jasprit Bumrah remains No.1 with 18 wickets and is closely followed by Harshal Patel, with 17 scalps to his name. Varun Chakaravarthy with 16 wickets to his name is third on the list. He is followed by T Natarajan, who has taken 15 wickets for SRH. The fifth spot is taken by Arshdeep Singh of PBKS, who has 15 scalps as well.

However, with his two wickets for DC against RR, Mukesh Kumar has moved to the 6th spot with 15 wickets, while Player of the Match Kuldeep Yadav is placed in the eighth spot with 14 wickets to his name.
