IPL 2024: Rohit Sharma tears apart Star Sports for recording his private conversation

Rohit Sharma’s private conversations with former teammates were caught on video with audio which went viral.

Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma has accused Indian Premier League (IPL) official broadcaster Star Sports of breaching his privacy. Rohit said that, despite his humble requests, Star Sports continues to release audio and video recordings of his private conversations with teammates and coworkers in the recent IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed as MI captain ahead of the IPL 2024 after the team management traded for Hardik Pandya from the Gujarat Titans and gave him the captaincy. Since then, there have been tales of conflict in the MI camp, with some suggesting that groupism has developed within the contingent.

These rumors were sparked by a video that surfaced prior to the KKR vs MI match at Eden Gardens. Rohit Sharma was speaking with KKR coach Abhishek Nayar when he seemingly stated that everything has changed in the MI camp.

Then ahead of In the MI’s final league match of the competition, Rohit Sharma was seen on camera talking to his former Mumbai and India teammate Dhawal Kulkarni and laughing. Rohit then saw the cameraperson and asked him to turn down the audio because it had previously caused him problems, as he indicated his chat with Nayar.

Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation..: Rohit Sharma

However, Star Sports chose to air the video of Rohit Sharma requesting the cameraperson to mute the audio in hopes of exclusive content and viral possibility.

Rohit took to his official X account (previously Twitter) to complain to Star Sports, the host broadcasters, for failing to respect his privacy. He warned that publicizing private conversations could “break the trust” among the many stakeholders, emphasizing his position on the issue.

“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we are having in privacy with our friends and colleagues, at training or on match days. Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversation, it was and was also then played on air, which is a breach of privacy. The need to get exclusive content and focused only on views and engagement will one day break the trust between the fans, cricketers and cricket. Let better sense prevail,” Rohit posted on X.

Rohit Sharma will now be in the first batch of Indian squad players who will leave for the USA to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024 which begins on June 1.
