Sanju Samson scored 86 runs against DC in Delhi.
Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) wicket-keeper batter and captain Sanju Samson has been fined 30 percent of his match fees following an argument with an on-field player during match No. 56 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on May 7.
The incident happened during the 16th over of the second innings when Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar came into the attack. In the fourth ball of the over, Samson tried to hit the pacer over long-on but was caught by Shai Hope just at the boundary border. However, it seemed like Hope had stepped on the boundary rope while taking the catch. It was then sent for a review by the third umpire.
When the third umpire checked it from the side angle, it was seen that Hope’s foot was very close to the boundary rope and many assumed that the foot was touching. But from another angle, it looked like a fair catch.
After seeing just few replays, the third umpire took his decision and gave Samson the marching orders towards the Royals dressing room. After the dismissal, the wicket-keeper batter was seen having an argument with the on-field umpires, as he felt that Hope’s foot was touching the boundary rope.
Here is the video of Sanju Samson’s dismissal:
While RR failed to win the crucial match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) imposed a heavy penalty on the Royals’ skipper for breaching the code of conduct. Samson’s argument with the umpires cost him heavy following the game.
“Mr Sanju Samson has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024,” the official statement read.
“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further stated.
