What is the TATA IPL?

The TATA IPL is the men’s Twenty20 (T20) cricket league that runs annually in India. TATA refers to the TATA Group’s sponsorship – it is one of India’s largest conglomerates, based in Mumbai. IPL stands for the Indian Premier League. The league, which was founded in 2007, is contested by 10 city-based teams and typically runs from March through to May.

Twenty20 (T20)

The T20 format is a shortened game of cricket in which the two teams have just one innings each, with a limited maximum of 20 overs. The game is typically completed within two and a half hours, with each innings taking approximately 70 minutes with an official 10-minute break in between.

Released schedule

The 17th IPL season kicks off with defending champions and five-time winners Chennai Super Kings taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore. What promises to be an action-packed match is set to begin at 8pm on Friday, 22 March.

The evening of Sunday 24 March sees a clash between last season’s finalists and 2022 winners Gujarat Titans at home to five-time winners Mumbai Indians – it promises to be full of energy, twists and turns.

But the most talked about match will be taking place on the evening of 26 March,, when we see a repeat of the 2023 finals fixture between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.

Remaining schedule

As is customary, once the dates for the Lok Sabha elections have been announced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will review the released schedule to resolve any issues. The BCCI will subsequently work in tandem with local authorities around the dates of general elections so that the schedule can be finalized for the remainder of the 2024 season.
