Suryakumar Yadav missed first two games of IPL 2024.

In concerning news for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and their fans, Suryakumar Yadav might skip a few more IPL 2024 games as “SKY” is yet to recover from a sports hernia surgery, with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) keeping a watch on his progress.

Suryakumar has been away from action since he last featured in the away three-match T20I series against South Africa in December 2023. Since then, Yadav hasn’t played cricket at any level and also underwent surgery for sports hernia in Germany earlier this year.

“Surya is making very good progress and very soon he will be back playing for MI. However, he might have to sit out for a few more games, having missed the first two,” a BCCI source told PTI.

While five-time champions MI are missing Yadav, the BCCI doesn’t want to take any chances with the star Indian batter’s fitness.

Suryakumar is expected to play a crucial role in the Men in Blue’s batting lineup at the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June. The 33-year-old has played in 60 T20Is for India and has smashed 2141 runs, including four tons.

Obviously he will play for MI but after a sports hernia surgery, he can’t be rushed,” the source added.

Mumbai have started their campaign on a bad note, having played two games and lost both matches. Mumbai faced their second defeat in the IPL 2024 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 31 runs. Hardik Pandya’s team will now take on 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on April 1.
