IPL 2024: Tim David and Kieron Pollard punished for DRS controversy in PBKS vs MI clash
Mumbai Indians’ Tim David and Kieron Pollard have been fined by the IPL governing council.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have been going through a lot in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. As per their performances, they started with three consecutive defeats and are currently placed seventh on the points table. They have not been able to bowl well despite the incredible contributions from Jasprit Bumrah. Even the fans are not happy after the removal of Rohit Sharma from the captaincy.
As a result, the new captain Hardik Pandya has faced a lot of criticism both on the ground and on social media as well. And now, MI batter Tim David and former MI star and batting coach Kieron Pollard have found themselves in a controversy. Both have been found guilty of breaching the IPL’s Code of Conduct.
IPL governing council punishes Tim David and Kieron Pollard over DRS call from dugout
This incident took place during match No. 33 between MI and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Thursday in Mullanpur. It happened in the 15th over of the first innings when Suryakumar Yadav was batting 67 off 47. Arshdeep Singh bowled a wide one away from the hitting arc of the batter. SKY tried to reach the ball but missed it. It wasn’t given wide initially, but the batter reviewed it.
However, suddenly the camera was panned at the MI dugout, where head coach Mark Boucher was seen signalling wide after seeing the replay on TV. Tim David and Kieron Pollard, who were sitting alongside him, made a gesture for review towards Suryakumar Yadav asking him to take a review. After that, the batter asked for a review. Even opposition captain Sam Curran saw how Pollard and David gestured towards Suryakumar and then complained the same to on-field umpire as well.

However, now both David and Pollard have been fined by the IPL governing council for breach of Code of Conduct. Both of the MI members have accepted their offence and the penalty has been imposed on them. Under article 2.20, Pollard and David breached the level 1 of Code of Conduct. As a result, they have been fined 20 percent of their match fees. However, it didn’t make any major impact on the game as MI won the match comfortably. Batting first, MI made 192/7 and PBKS fell short by nine runs and lost the game.
