Defending champions Chennai Super Kings won their second game in the IPL 2024 season.

A combined effort from the batters powered defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a massive total of 206/6 against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Indian Premier League 2024 Match No. 7 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on March 26.

Asked to bat first, CSK got off to a flying start, all thanks to Rachin Ravindra’s quick-fire knock of 46 off 20 balls. He took the onus of scoring runs, while skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad provided the ideal support at the other end.

However, it was CSK’s Shivam Dube who stole the show during the first innings with his blistering knock of 51 runs off 23 balls, including two boundaries and five sixes, which helped the five-time champions reach 206/6 in 20 overs.

While defending 207 runs, CSK pacer Deepak Chahar picked two big fish in the powerplay. In the third over of the second innings, he dismissed GT’s skipper Shubman Gill, who had eight runs to his name. In the fifth over, Chahar took the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha, who smashed 21 runs and dented the Titans’ chase of over 200 runs.

The Titans kept losing wickets at regular intervals as they lost two more batters, Vijay Shankar and David Miller, who scored 12 and 21 runs respectively. In the 15th over, CSK’s Matheesha Pathirana ended Sai Sudarshan’s struggle at the crease. Sudarshan departed after scoring 37 runs off 31 deliveries.

In the end, five-time champions CSK won their second consecutive game in the cash-rich league. GT scored 143/8 as they lost the match by 63 runs.
