IPL 2024: Virat Kohli fined 50% match fees following outburst in KKR vs RCB match
Virat Kohli was dismissed for 18 runs in the KKR vs RCB match on Sunday.
Virat Kohli, the ace Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter, has been fined for his recent outburst following his controversial dismissal against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Harshit Rana of KKR dismissed Kohli with a slow full-toss that Kohli struck above his waist outside of his crease. He lobbed the ball in the air while Rana raced and easily caught it. Kohli quickly requested a review, but it was already being conducted by an umpire. The third umpire looked at the ball and determined it was fair.
Kohli was spotted disputing with the umpire after being dismissed for a high full-toss that many considered a no-ball. However, the third umpire found the delivery to be a fair one.
The ball was at Kohli’s waist when he played it, but the tracker showed it lowering before reaching the crease. The estimated height of the ball in the crease was then compared to the batter’s waist height, which had been previously measured.
The ball’s predicted height was deemed to be lower than Kohli’s waist, hence the third umpire ruled him out. The former India captain was dissatisfied with the decision and informed the on-field umpire before storming out.

And now it has been confirmed that Virat Kohli has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during RCB’s one-run loss to KKR at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
After his dismissal, Kohli argued with the umpires and as he reached the RCB dugout, he hit a dustbin and then slammed his gloves and bat on the ground on his way to the pavilion.
“Mr Virat Kohli, Batter, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 36 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 21, 2024.
Kohli committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding ,” IPL said in a statement.
RCB are currently languishing at bottom of the IPL 2024 points table after losing six matches straight. They will next visit Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.
