IPL 2024: Virat Kohli becomes first ever batsman to score 8000 runs in the tournament history

Virat Kohli reached the 8000-run mark during the IPL 2024 Eliminator match against RR.
Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Virat Kohli made history by becoming the first cricketer to reach the 8000-run mark in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It is worth mentioning that no other batter has crossed even 7,000 runs in the cash-rich league till now and Kohli has extended his lead.
The 35-year-old Kohli achieved this historic milestone during the Eliminator match of the ongoing IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22. During the sixth over of the first innings, Kohli reached the milestone after completing 29 runs.
The star batter Kohli is having an outstanding run in the ongoing IPL 2024. In 15 matches, Kohli has smashed 741 runs with an impressive average of 67.00.
In the ongoing season, Kohli achieved another record when he reached 3000 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the IPL. He achieved the iconic feat during RCB’s last match against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings.
Interestingly, Kohli has been constantly criticized for his poor intent in the shortest format of the game. Answering all his critics, Kohli has scored runs with an strike rate of 155.81 this season, which is higher than his IPL career strike rate.
Overall, Kohli has featured in 252 IPL matches till now. The Bengaluru batter has smashed 8,004 runs at an average of 38.83. The veteran player also has 55 half centuries and eight hundreds to his name in the IPL till now.
