Virat Kohli even handed his cap to umpire and teased bowling first over of the match.
Virat Kohli was seen having some fun before the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday. This match is being played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 21, 2024.
RCB captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to field. The match also included lots of drama during the toss. When the cameraman zoomed in on the coin, Du Plessis gave a sly smirk in reaction to the ‘toss-tampering’ claims that circulated on social media during the RCB-Mumbai Indians game earlier this month.
RCB made three changes to their XI with Mohammed Siraj, Karn Sharma, and Cameron Green coming into the playing XI.
Virat Kohli taunts Sunil Narine with The Undertaker’s ‘Throat Slit’ gesture
RCB star batter Virat Kohli was seen enjoying himself before the proceedings began in Kolkata. Notably, Kohli, with 361 runs in seven innings, is at the top of the Orange Cap leaderboard. Despite his team RCB having lost 6 of their 7 matches before this encounter, he has had a dream run with the bat.
As the players took the field at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Kohli passed his cap to one of the on-field umpires and took the ball, creating the appearance that he would start the RCB’s innings with the ball. Naturally, spectators in the stadium began to cheer loudly.
During the same, Sunil Narine walked past Kohli and the RCB star taunted him by making the infamous ‘throat slit’ gesture made popular by WWE superstar The Undertaker. Kohli came up to Narine and spoke briefly with him. RCB had a defined strategy against Narine.
Here is the video:
It was Phil Salt who gave a flying start to KKR in the first innings, as he slammed 48 in 14 balls with seven fours and three sixes. Captain Shreyas Iyer made 50 in 36, while contributions from Rinku Singh (24), Andre Russell (27*), and Ramandeep Singh (24* in 9 balls) powered KKR to a final total of 222/6 in 20 overs.
