IPL 2024: Why Hardik Pandya was fined 24 lakhs after LSG vs MI match?

All Mumbai Indians players including captain Hardik Pandya were fined.
Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya was not a happy man as not only did his team lose to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, but also he was slapped with a fine by the IPL governing council.
Notably, MI failed to be on time when the clock ran out for over-completion during their bowling innings. This led to The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announcing the penalty in a statement, citing the team’s repeated slow over-rate infractions.
“Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024,” the BCCI noted.
“The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.” It was also noted that if Hardik is guilty of the same offense again, he could face a one-match suspension,” the statement added.
Hardik Pandya’s troubles as MI captain continue as team loses the 7th match in 10 encounters in IPL 2024
MI had another dismal showing on Tuesday night, being reduced to 144/7 after being assigned to bat by KL Rahul. Hardik Pandya, who was named India’s vice-captain for the T20 World Cup earlier in the day, went for a first-ball duck. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, however, struggled to make an impact, scoring only four runs off five deliveries.
Marcus Stoinis’ brilliant half-century helped LSG chase down the target with 4 wickets in hand and 4 balls to spare.
Hardik is yet to score a half-century with the bat in the ongoing IPL 2024; he has scored 197 runs in 10 innings this season, with a strike rate of 150.38. In ten matches, the all-rounder has only six wickets, with an economy rate of 11, adding to MI’s difficulties.
MI are more or less out of the race for playoff spots in IPL 2024, as they reel at the ninth spot in the points table with six points.
