RCB’s Will Jacks amassed 230 runs in just eight outings in the IPL 2024

Following their win against Delhi Capitals (DC) in match No. 62 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been dealt with a massive blow as they won’t have their overseas stars Will Jacks and Reece Topley for their must-win clash against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18.

In the ongoing IPL 2024, all-rounder Jacks played eight games for the Bengaluru franchise. He has amassed 230 runs at an average of 32.86 with a stunning strike rate of 175.57. Jacks also hammered an unbeaten 100*, where he dismantled the Gujarat Titans bowling line-up and helped his side to a memorable win.

After losing seven matches in the first half of the tournament, the Faf du Plessis-led side made a strong comeback in the second half of IPL 2024. Bengaluru are on a five-match winning streak, and now they will play the do-or-die encounter against CSK in order to book their place in the playoffs.

However, the franchise will find it very difficult to fill the shoes of in-form Jacks as their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is having a poor IPL 2024 season till now.

Why Jacks will not feature in the RCB vs CSK clash?

The Bengaluru-based franchise shared an emotional post on their social handle ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) where they confirmed the news about the departure Jacks. Apart from him, the franchise will also miss the services of their overseas pacer Reece Topley. Both the star players are part of England squad for ICC T20 World Cup and the T20I series against Pakistan prior to that. Both of them are heading back to the UK.

“Jacksy and Toppers are heading back home for international duties and we wish them all the very best. You were incredible in the camp and on the field this IPL. See you soon, lads,” RCB confirmed on a social media on May 13.

Why are Will Jacks and Reece Topley going back to England?

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced their provisional 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, the ECB confirmed all the English players, who have been picked in the squad and are currently taking part in the ongoing IPL 2024 will have to return back to home.

The decision was made because England are all set to host Pakistan in a four-match T20I series in order to prepare for the upcoming ICC tournament. The T20I series against Pakistan will be played from May 22 to May 30.

It is also understood that, apart from Topley and Jacks, other English players who are playing in the IPL 2024 will also head back to their home country by this weekend.
