IPL 2025 auction: 3 players Gujarat Titans (GT) might target through RTM card
Gujarat Titans have retained five players before the IPL 2025 auction.
Gujarat Titans (GT), the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 champions and IPL 2023 runners-up, didn’t have a good time in IPL 2024 without their former captain Hardik Pandya. Under Shubman Gill, the Titans failed to capture the success of the previous two seasons and couldn’t make it into the playoffs. They finished eighth in the points table, with five wins and seven losses.
Therefore, the IPL 2025 mega auction will be a huge opportunity for GT to solidify their squad further after retaining five core members from the last season: Rashid Khan (INR 18 crores), Shubman Gill (INR 16.50 crores), Sai Sudharsan (INR 8.50 crores), Rahul Tewatia (INR 4 crores) and Shahrukh Khan (INR 4 crores).
Gujarat will head into the IPL 2025 mega auction with INR 69 crores in their purse and one RTM card that they can use on a capped player.
In this article, we will discuss three players who could be roped back by GT through an RTM card in the mega auction.
Three players Gujarat Titans (GT) might target through the RTM card in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. David Miller
Gujarat not retaining David Miller came as a huge shock for the fans. The South African has been a vital cog in GT’s batting lineup over the years, playing the role of a finisher to the tee. Miller’s IPL and international experience have come in handy for the Titans in their journey so far.
Miller has been with the franchise since their debuted in the IPL in 2022, and scored 481, 259, and 210 runs respectively in the three seasons, at a strike rate bordering on 150. In IPL 2024, he played nine games and though didn’t score a lot, he managed a strike rate of 151.
With a young Gill at the helm, the Titans can use the experience and help from Miller going forward as the Proteas batter remains one of the best in the world in the finisher’s role.
2. Vijay Shankar
Vijay Shankar had one good Indian Premier League (IPL) season for Gujarat in 2023, where he scored 301 runs with three fifties and struck at a strike rate of 160. Otherwise, Shankar has made 82 runs in 11 matches across two seasons in 2022 and 2024.
Despite being a pace-bowling all-rounder, Shankar has surprisingly not been asked to bowl in the last two seasons by the Titans and was mostly used as an Impact Sub last season. It remains to be seen whether Gujarat would be willing to use their one RTM card on Shankar, who still remains a hot prospect owing to his all-round skillset.
3. Mohit Sharma
A strong candidate on whom the Titans can use their RTM card is pacer Mohit Sharma. Mohit was a surprise pick made by Gujarat at the IPL 2023 auction as the pacer had last played in the IPL before that in 2020. Dip in form and injuries had brought his downfall in the interim years.
But Mohit impressed the GT staff as a net bowler during the IPL 2022 season, and the franchise bought him in the IPL 2023 auction for only INR 50 lakhs. Mohit proved to be a game-changer for them, primarily being used as a death bowler, as he picked up 27 wickets in 14 games. He almost won the IPL 2023 for GT, but Ravindra Jadeja stole the final on the last two balls.
He did decently in IPL 2024 as well, taking 13 wickets, as his role changed, requiring him to bowl one or two overs in the first 10 overs of the innings due to the absence of Mohammed Shami.
Mohit remains a good option for the Titans to use their RTM card on.
