IPL 2025: Teams with most RTM cards available for mega auction
All ten teams have submitted their retention list for IPL 2025.
The retention list for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been submitted by the franchises on 31st October. All the teams have finalized their retentions and released players. All the franchises have left out a few high-profile players, including three captains!
With the IPL 2025 mega auction set to take place soon, the focus is now on the Right to Match (RTM) cards. While many high-profile players like Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami and KL Rahul would be up for grabs in the auction, their former teams will have the power to exercise the RTM card on them and regain their services.
The RTM card allows teams to re-sign a player they previously released by matching the highest bid during the auction. However, there’s a new twist in the IPL 2025 mega auction: if the old franchise uses the RTM card, the team with the winning bid can opt to increase the bid. The original team would then need to match this increased value to reclaim the player.
Each franchise has a limited number of RTMs based on how many players they retain. The BCCI had allowed all 10 teams to retain a maximum of six players with any combination of retention and RTM cards. Of these six players, a maximum of five can be capped and a maximum of two uncapped. Teams that retained fewer players have more RTMs for the auction.
In this article, we will take a look at the 10 teams and how many RTM cards they will have during the IPL mega auction.
IPL 2025: Team with the most RTM cards available for mega auction
Punjab Kings have the most number of RTMs available to them for the mega auction: since PBKS have retained only two players, they will have four RTMs for the auction.
Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will have two and three RTMs at their disposal respectively as DC have retained four players whereas RCB have retained only three.
Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad will have one RTM card each in the auction. These teams have retained five players each and hence will have the right to use the RTM on one player. MI and SRH can use their RTMs on only an uncapped player as they have retained five capped players.
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders won’t be having any RTMs under their belt in the auction because both franchises have retained six players each.
Remaining RTM cards for all teams for the IPL 2025 mega auction:
- MI: 1
- PBKS: 4
- RCB: 3
- RR: 0
- SRH: 1
- CSK: 1
- DC: 2
- GT: 1
- KKR: 0
- LSG: 1
