IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Arshdeep Singh
Punjab Kings released Arshdeep Singh ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
One of the most surprising moves ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has been the release of pacer Arshdeep Singh. The left-arm seamer has been with the Punjab franchise since his maiden IPL season in 2019.
Arshdeep was Punjab’s most successful bowler last season, taking 19 wickets in 14 games. Now a crucial part of the Indian T20I team, Arshdeep showcased his ability on the grandest stage by finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with 17 wickets. Yet, PBKS didn’t retain him ahead of the mega auction.
Across his IPL career, Arshdeep has taken 76 wickets in 65 matches at a bowling average of 27. With the young left-arm fast bowler now available in the auction pool, multiple franchises will engage in a bidding war. It is to be noted that Punjab can use RTM card on Arshdeep at the auction.
Let’s take a look at three teams who might go after him in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Three teams who might target Arshdeep Singh in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Arshdeep could prove to be a valuable addition for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. RCB are infamous for their lacklustre death bowling performances game after game. In the last three years, Arshdeep has shown great temperament to hold his nerves during the later stages of the innings.
Arshdeep’s yorkers and deceptive slower deliveries could be the key to addressing RCB’s death bowling struggles. RCB have retained Yash Dayal for the next season, and Arshdeep’s potential addition will give the franchise the luxury of having a rare combination of two quality Indian left-handed fast bowlers.
2. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Despite releasing Arshdeep before the mega auction, Punjab Kings might go for the left-arm speedster at the mega auction. His experience with the team’s setup and his growing stature make him an ideal fit to be the leader of Punjab’s bowling attack.
Arshdeep’s ability to take crucial wickets in the powerplay and at the death has been a vital part of PBKS’s bowling setup in recent years. Punjab will have the option to use their RTM (Right to Match) card, for the southpaw in the mega auction.
3. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans are known for their versatile bowling attack. With superstar Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami out with an injury, Gujarat Titans had an underwhelming IPL 2024 season.
GT have not retained any fast bowler before the mega auction and hence would be looking to go all out for quality Indian options. Arshdeep’s potential addition to the Gujarat side will allow the franchise to build a bowling attack around an experienced Indian bowler. Arshdeep will further rejoice in the opportunity to be groomed under former India seamer Ashish Nehra, who is GT’s head coach.
