David Warner got released by Delhi Capitals before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

One of the most consistent players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) history, David Warner has been released by Delhi Capitals (DC) before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Participating in the biggest T20 league in the world since 2009, Warner has represented two IPL franchises in his career – Delhi Capitals (previously Daredevils) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Warner’s IPL journey has been nothing short of a fairytale. Nicknamed “The Bull,” Warner has won the Orange Cap three times in his career. Warner also led SRH to their first and only IPL trophy in the 2016 season.

Despite being on the wrong side of the age, Warner remains a valuable asset. On that note, let’s take a look at the three teams that might target the Australian legend in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Three teams who might target David Warner in the IPL 2025 mega auction:

1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

Five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings are known for their preference for buying experienced players at the auctions. After the release of the Kiwi batting duo Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra, David Warner can prove to be an attractive option for CSK.

Warner’s record in the IPL speaks for itself. His experience at the top of the order will strengthen the CSK batting lineup. Warner is also regarded as one of the best fielders in the world and hence, his possible presence will help CSK improve their lacklustre ground fielding.

2. Punjab Kings (PBKS)

Retaining only two players before the mega auction, the Punjab Kings have the challenging task of rebuilding their squad almost from scratch. If bought, Warner’s experience will help PBKS in their revamp process.

Warner’s potential inclusion will aid Punjab form an explosive opening duo with Prabhsimran Singh. Furthermore, Ricky Ponting’s strong bond with Warner can add to the team’s leadership.

3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)

After releasing Faf Du Plessis, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will go to the auction looking for a new captain and opener. With Virat Kohli’s captaincy status still uncertain, Warner can prove to be a solid captaincy candidate for RCB.

The batting-friendly pitch of M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will further complement Warner’s free-flowing batting style. If it happens, Kohli and Warner could form a deadly opening duo.
