Marco Jansen was released by SRH ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

South Africa’s Marco Jansen is one of the finest pace-bowling all-rounders going around in the world. While Jansen emerged a lanky pacer who can swing the new ball, the left-armer has added variations in his bowling arsenal to be effective in the death overs.

Over the past couple of years, Jansen’s batting has also elevated to a level that he is being trusted with the No. 7 position in the South African T20I team.

He started his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with Mumbai Indians in 2021 and then played the next three seasons at Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

He will be up for grabs in the auction where he could force a bidding war.

Three teams who might target Marco Jansen in the IPL 2025 mega auction:

1. Mumbai Indians (MI)

Mumbai’s scouts scouted Jansen when he was an uncapped player and roped him in the 2021 auction but they had to release him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. MI then also bought Marco’s twin brother, Duan Jansen, in their side for IPL 2023.

MI have always preferred to have a couple of overseas seamers in their XI, in particular left-arm pacers because of their tendency to swing the ball into the right-handers. Mumbai could once again go after Jansen in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction and his potential pair with Bumrah could be deadly with the new ball.

2. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The Eden Gardens is a good batting track that also offers some pace and bounce for the seamers. On such a surface, Jansen could prove to be effective. Hence, one could expect KKR to bid for the lanky South African seamer.

Further, KKR like to have batting depth in their side. Jansen’s hitting ability, which was shown recently during his 16-ball fifty against India in Centurion, could tempt KKR further in bidding for the Proteas all-rounder.

3. Gujarat Titans (GT)

Of the five players retained by Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, none of them are fast bowlers. Therefore, GT will be looking for several pacers in the auction.

One of their targets could be Jansen, who has an experience of being part of four IPL seasons and being a key figure in SRH’s bowling line-up. GT’s home ground, Narendra Modi Stadium, is conducive to swing bowling in evening games, something the left-arm could thrive upon.
