IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin has been released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.
One of the most exciting players to enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction is Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin was released by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) after three seasons with the franchise.
Representing RR, Ashwin picked up 35 wickets in 45 games. Furthermore, he also displayed his versatility by batting in the middle order at times.
Ashwin has represented four franchises in his IPL career – Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals. Ashwin also won the IPL twice with CSK in the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Ashwin’s quality as a spinner along with his vast experience make him a valuable asset. It is to be noted that RR don’t have any RTM card to use on Ashwin.
On that note, let’s look at three teams that might target Ravichandran Ashwin in the upcoming auction.
Three teams who might target Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
Ashwin’s prior experience with CSK makes him an ideal fit for the five-time champions. Having already been part of Chennai’s title-winning campaigns in 2010 and 2011, Ashwin is no stranger to the franchise’s culture.
Additionally, Ashwin’s canny spin-bowling will prove to be effective on the turning track of Chepauk. Chennai is also Ashwin’s hometown and his potential move to CSK will help the franchise exploit the home conditions better.
2. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi Capitals will be looking for a captain in the mega auction after releasing Rishabh Pant. Having led Punjab Kings before in his IPL career, Ashwin can prove to be an interesting option for DC.
Ashwin played for DC in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, picking 20 wickets in 28 games. Ashwin’s potential inclusion will bring strength to DC’s bowling lineup in the powerplay and middle overs.
3. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
The pitch at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium is the most spin-friendly surface in the IPL. Having retained Ravi Bishnoi before the mega auction, Ashwin’s possible inclusion will cement Lucknow’s spin attack as one of the best in the tournament.
With the recent release of KL Rahul, LSG could also consider Ashwin for a leadership role. If LSG buy Ashwin, his experience and tactical genius can serve the franchise well.
