IPL 2025: How can Delhi Capitals qualify for the playoffs?

Delhi Capitals currently have 13 points from 12 games from 6 wins, and NRR of +0.260.
Delhi Capitals (DC), who had an excellent start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign – winning four matches and losing just one out of their first five games – have seen a reversal of fortunes in the second half. In the next seven matches, DC managed only two wins and lost four games, with one match yielding no result (NR).
This has left DC with 13 points from 12 games, with six wins and fivelosses. Their latest defeat in IPL 2025 came against Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, on May 18.
DC were led by KL Rahul, who scored an incredible 112* off 65 balls with four sixes and fourteen fours. With this, his fifth IPL century, he became the first batsman to score hundreds for three separate IPL franchises. Tristan Stubbs hit 21* off 10 balls, while Abishek Porel (30) and Axar Patel (25) helped DC post a total of 199/3 in 20 overs.
In response, Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill smashed the DC bowlers to all corners of the Arun Jaitley Stadium, as GT chased down the target with ease. Gill scored 93* with three fours and seven sixes, while Sudharsan made 108* with twelve fours and four sixes to record his second IPL century. GT won by 10 wickets and confirmed their spot in the playoffs.
Their win also helped RCB and PBKS, who advanced to the playoffs based on points.
How Can Delhi Capitals Qualify for the Playoffs?
Once the favorites to be the first team to qualify for the playoffs, DC are now in a spot of bother before their last two league games. DC, who had topped the IPL points table for most of the season, currently sit in fifth place after the 10-wicket setback.
Of greater concern, their Net Run Rate (NRR) has also taken a hit, dropping to +0.260 compared to the Mumbai Indians’ +1.156.
DC’s next games are against the Mumbai Indians on May 21 and the Punjab Kings on May 24. Regardless of their NRR, they will advance to the IPL 2025 playoffs if they win both games.
DC will earn 17 points and qualify if they win both games. They will be eliminated if they lose to MI on Wednesday. If MI defeat DC on Wednesday, MI would end up with 16 points and DC would be stuck with 13 points and one game and even if they win their last match league stage match against PBKS, they will finish at a maximum of 15 points, which will be lesser than that of MI’s points.
