Parthiv Patel played for six IPL franchises in his career.
Gujarat Titans (GT) have roped in former Indian wicket-keeper batter Parthiv Patel as their new assistant and batting coach ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
Patel has previously played for six franchises in the IPL – Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Deccan Chargers, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Parthiv was first picked by CSK in the inaugural IPL season in 2008. He represented MI in their title-winning campaigns of 2015 and 2017 before finishing his career at RCB in 2020.
Throughout his career, Parthiv primarily served as an opener, scoring 2848 runs with an average of 22 and a strike rate of 121, including 15 fifties. His standout season came in 2017 with MI, where he scored 395 runs at an impressive strike rate of 136.
After his playing career was over in the IPL, he served as a scout with MI and a batting coach for Mumbai Emirates. Regarded for his sharp game sense, Parthiv will now join GT as their batting and assistant coach.
This inclusion from GT came after they experienced an underwhelming IPL 2024 season. Winning the league in their debut season, 2022, Gujarat finished as the runners-up in 2023.
However, the IPL 2024 saw a dip in form for the franchise with the team finishing eighth in the points table, following the departure of skipper Hardik Pandya.
Gujarat Titans’ official statement regarding Parthiv Patel:
GT announced Parthiv’s arrival in their official statement, remarking, “With a distinguished 17-year career as a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter, Parthiv brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team,“
Titans also emphasized the sharp cricketing acumen Parthiv carries, stating, “As the Titans prepare for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, Parthiv’s insights into batting techniques and strategies will play a crucial role in enhancing the players’ skills. Parthiv, who is known for his sharp cricketing acumen and ability to mentor young talent, will strengthen the coaching staff and contribute to player development and performance.”
