IPL 2025: KL Rahul to miss Delhi Capitals' first two matches

Delhi Capitals bought KL Rahul for INR 14 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The Delhi Capitals (DC) have suffered a major blow with doubts over star batsman KL Rahul’s participation in their first two games of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Indian wicket-keeper batter was acquired by the franchise for a whopping INR 14 crores at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Earlier, DC batsman Harry Brook pulled out of the tournament, citing the need to focus on himself during a tough time for the England Cricket Team. Rahul’s possible absence will be a huge blow for the franchise, who will aim to win their maiden IPL title this year.

Alyssa Healy, wife of Mitchell Starc, who joined the Capitals camp earlier this week, has now revealed why Rahul might take some time off at the start of the tournament.

Speaking to LisTNR Sport, Healy discussed DC’s batting woes following Harry Brook’s announcement that he won’t participate in the upcoming season. She also mentioned that Rahul might miss the first two games as he is expecting the birth of his child.

Healy said, “No Harry Brook, (so) it will be interesting to see who the replacement player will be. They have KL Rahul, who will probably not play the first couple of games I think… they are awaiting the birth of (their) child, but that dynamic, is cool.“

In his absence, the Capitals will need to introduce a new player in their XI for the first two games against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), both scheduled in Visakhapatnam on March 24 and 30 respectively.

Earlier, after months of speculation, the franchise appointed Axar Patel as their captain. The decision surprised a few who expected Rahul to take up the role given his leadership experience with Punjab Kings and LSG.
