Zaheer Khan became the mentor of LSG ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) came up with a humiliating performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The franchise finished in the seventh spot in the points table with 12 points as they won just six matches and lost eight encounters in the 14 games.
Rishabh Pant was appointed as the new skipper of the side ahead of IPL 2025. However, he struggled with his captaincy as well as batting. He scored 269 runs in 13 innings at an average of 24.45. He slammed a century and a half-century in two games but got out cheaply in the rest of the 11 matches.
Zaheer Khan was appointed as the mentor of LSG for the tournament. The former India pacer took up the role in August last year ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and was given a one-year contract by the franchise.
LSG likely to sack mentor Zaheer Khan- Reports
According to a report in Cricbuzz, LSG are likely to part ways with Zaheer Khan as the mentor of the team. His contract is up for renewal, however, the franchise is not keen to extend his contract. Notably, the management is not satisfied with his services following the team’s dismal show in IPL 2025.
Notably, Khan helped skipper Pant shape the vision and approach for the team in the tournament. He and Pant decided to play a fearless brand of cricket this season, however, the approach was not at all successful.
Notably, Khan joined LSG as the mentor to fill the vacancy left by Gautam Gambhir after IPL 2023. Gambhir took the role of mentor at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024 and helped the side win the title. Khan previously worked with Mumbai Indians (MI) franchise from the 2018 and 2022 seasons. He held the role of Director of Cricket and head of global development.
Skipper Pant was roped in for a hefty amount of INR 27 crores during the IPL 2025 mega auction, becoming the costliest player ever in the IPL history. LSG were led by KL Rahul in the first three seasons. However, he parted ways with the franchise ahead of IPL 2025. LSG reached the playoffs in their first two seasons in 2022 and 2023.
