Mega auction to take place before IPL 2025: IPL chairman Arun Dhumal

The IPL 2024 auction was held in Dubai in December 2023.
The Indian Premier League 2024 will begin on 22nd March with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) taking on each other in curtain raiser encounter at Chepauk in Chennai. The upcoming season will be 17th season of the big business league. Chennai Super Kings will enter the tournament as defending champions having won the previous title.
IPL governing council chairman Arun Dhumal has revealed that the league will organise mega auction ahead of the next IPL season in 2025. Dhumal has confirmed that the fans will be greeted with some big action in the IPL mega auction which is likely to be held in December this year. IPL mega auction will be a competitive one as the number of options available will be much bigger.
‘Mega Auction before IPL 2025’
IPL governing council chairman Arun Dhumal revealed that the teams will get to retain 3-4 players from their current squads and the rest of the squad will go to the auction table. Dhumal said, “We will have the mega auction for sure, where you get to choose three-four players and then you have a new team. That makes it more interesting and that format will continue.”
Arun Dhumal also added that the mega auction allow teams like Afghanistan and junior players to showcase their talent in the league.
“Hopefully, the mega auction will be as big and as good as we have had earlier given newer talents coming in not from India and other countries. Teams like Afghanistan have also benefitted as they could showcase their talent” he added.
The IPL 2024 auction was the most hyped one in terms of money spent on players. Australia pacers Mitchell Starc (INR 24.75 crores) and Pat Cummins (INR 20.50 crore) earned huge amount during the auction. Arun Dhumal also gave a hint of IPL 2024 final being played somewhere around 25th or 26th May. The T20 World Cup 2024 will begin on 2nd June.
