KL Rahul was released by LSG ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

KL Rahul is one of the most talented cricketers to have played for India. He is also one of the most versatile players, having performed multiple roles as per the requirement of the team: Rahul has batted in various positions for Team India across the three formats and has also donned wicket-keeping gloves.

Rahul made his India debut in 2014. And while he couldn’t cement his place for a long period of time in any format, he has produced plenty of high-quality knocks for the national side across the three formats.

He’s featured in over 200 internationals for India and has amassed more than 8000 runs, with 17 centuries to his name.

Among his most remarkable knocks for India are his test centuries in South Africa, England and Australia – being the only Indian opener to hit a test century in these three nations.

KL Rahul sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore

KL Rahul was bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore. The former LSG and PBKS captain is very likely to be named the new DC skipper.

KKR and RCB, both of whom are also searching for a new captain, went after Rahul early on until INR 10.5 crore when RCB gave up. DC came into the fray and tussled with KKR and then with CSK, eventually scooping up Rahul for 14 crore.

KL Rahul previously in the IPL

KL Rahul has featured for four franchises in his Indian Premier League (IPL) career. He started with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2013 before playing two seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rahul returned to RCB in 2016 and had a breakthrough season, helping the side reach the final.

He missed the 2017 season due to injury and then was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 11 crore in the IPL 2018 mega auction. Rahul captained Punjab in the 2020 and 2021 seasons before parting ways with the franchise.

He then joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2022 season for INR 17 crore. He captained LSG to playoffs in IPL 2022 and 2023 but missed it in IPL 2024. The association between Rahul and LSG ended ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In his IPL career, Rahul has scored 4683 runs in 132 games at an average of 45.46 with four centuries and 37 fifties.
