IPL 2025 mega auction: Mumbai Indians win bidding war with PBKS, CSK to buy Deepak Chahar
Deepak Chahar picked up only five wickets in IPL 2024 for CSK.
Deepak Chahar is one of the best new ball swing bowlers in the country. He can also provide batting contributions lower down the order. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, Chahar plays for Rajasthan in domestic cricket.
He has earned 13 ODI and 25 T20I caps, though his career has been hampered due to injuries in the last three years.
Deepak made his ODI and T20I debuts for India in 2018 and has featured in 38 white-ball internationals for his country. However, due to injuries, he’s played only one match since the start of 2023. The right-arm seamer has done well in his opportunities, picking up 47 wickets overall.
Deepak Chahar sold to Mumbai Indians for INR 9.25 crore
Mumbai Indians bought Deepak Chahar for INR 9.25 crore in the mega auction. They staved off competition from CSK, who were keen on getting back Chahar but pulled out at 9.25 crore. PBKS had also showed interest in Chahar.
Deepak Chahar previously in the IPL
Deepak Chahar made his IPL debut for Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016 and was part of the franchise’s two-season existence where he impressed MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming.
Then Chennai Super Kings, headed by the Dhoni-Fleming duo, roped him in the IPL 2018 mega auction. CSK couldn’t retain him ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction but splurged INR 14 crore over Chahar to regain his services, making him their most expensive auction purchase then.
However, Chahar played only 18 matches in the last three seasons as he dealt with injuries and loss of form. After managing only five scalps last season, Chahar has been released by CSK ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. He was part of CSK’s last three title wins.
Overall, in his 81-match IPL career, Chahar scalped 77 wickets at an economy of 7.98.
