IPL 2025 mega auction: RCB buy Devdutt Padikkal at his base price

Devdutt Padikkal scored only 38 runs in IPL 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants.

Born in Kerala in 2000, Devdutt Padikkal, who plays domestic cricket for Karnataka, took the Indian cricket by storm early in his domestic cricket.

In the year he made his List-A and T20 debut, 2019, Padikkal was roped in by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and soon was playing alongside the likes of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers and even matching them on the runs chart in his first couple of Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons.

During the 2019-2022 period, Padikkal charted significant runs in all domestic tournaments, leading to his T20I debut for India in 2021. However, then his form suffered everywhere and he couldn’t utilize his few chances in the IPL and for Team India.

Padikkal has played two T20Is, in which he scored 38 runs, but hit a fifty on his debut test match this year against England in Dharamsala.

He has an experience of 99 T20 matches so far, in which he averaged 31 and has struck three centuries and 17 fifties.

Devdutt Padikkal sold to RCB for INR 2 crore

Devdutt Padikkal will return to RCB as they bought him for his base price of INR 2 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Devdutt Padikkal previously in IPL

Padikkal made his IPL debut for RCB in 2020 and had two blockbuster seasons as an opener with the franchise, scoring 473 and 411 runs.

Then, in the IPL 2022 mega auction, he was bought by Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 7.75 crore. He had two ordinary seasons where he was shuffled in the middle-order, which was not his preferred batting role.

He was then traded to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for IPL 2024, which turned into a nightmare for the left-hander as he scored only 38 runs across seven innings at a strike rate of 71.

LSG released him in the IPL 2025 mega auction pool.
