IPL 2025 mega auction: Josh Hazlewood returns to RCB as the franchise spends 12.5 crores
Josh Hazlewood had skipped the IPL 2024 season for personal reasons.
Josh Hazlewood is hailed as the clone of Glenn McGrath. Like the legendary former Australian seamer, Hazlewood is impeccable in his lines and lengths and doesn’t give away an inch to the batsmen to free their arms.
In test cricket, Hazlewood is known for his metronomic bowling in the channel outside the off-stump. Previously, Hazlwood was seen only as a red-ball giant.
However, he has changed that perception since 2020 and is now a key member of Australia’s white-ball teams as well. The lanky speedster had added variations like the cutters, slower bouncers, and yorkers to his arsenal to make himself an indispensable part of the white-ball side.
He has so far featured in 70 tests, 91 ODIs and 52 T20Is, picking up 273, 138 and 67 wickets respectively. He has bagged 15 five-wicket hauls in international cricket. Though often undershadowed by Cummins and Starc, Hazlewood is as a vital cog in Australia’s bowling attack as the other two seamers.

Josh Hazlewood will return to RCB as the franchise bought him for INR 12.5 crore in the mega auction. Hazlewood was with RCB in IPL 2022 and 2023.
Josh Hazlewood previously in the IPL
Hazlewood was part of the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad in 2014 but didn’t get to make his debut. He then missed the next five IPL seasons due to injury and workload management.
In the IPL 2020 auction, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for INR 2 crore. In IPL 2021, he played a crucial role in helping CSK lift the title by picking up 11 wickets in nine matches in the second half of the season.
He was then bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 7.75 crore and delivered the goods: 20 wickets in 12 matches. He played only three matches in IPL 2023 due to an Achilles injury.
Hazlewood missed the IPL 2024 season for personal reasons but is back for IPL 2025.
