PBKS shelled INR 26.75 crore on Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) made a huge pick at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction by purchasing Shreyas Iyer for INR 26.75 crores. At the instant of being bought, Iyer became the most expensive player in the IPL history, but was soon toppled by Rishabh Pant, who was bought for INR 27 crores by Lucknow Super Giants.

PBKS headed into the mega auction with the largest purse of INR 110.5 crores having retained only two players from last season, both uncapped.

They had four Right To Match (RTM) cards available. They executed one RTM card on fast bowler Arshdeep Singh, who was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 18 crores.

Punjab also made another expensive signing in Yuzvendra Chahal, roping him in for INR 18 crores.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting was earlier roped in as Punjab Kings’ new head coach, after his association with Delhi Capitals ended.

  4. Yash Thakur – 1.6 crore (BP – 30 lakh)
  5. Vijaykumar Vyshak – 1.8 crore (BP – 30 lakh)
  6. Vishnu Vinod – 95 lakh (BP – 30 lakh)
  7. Harpreet Brar – 1.5 crore (BP – 30 lakh)
  8. Nehal Wadhera – 4.2 crore (BP – 30 lakh)

After buying Iyer, Ponting said, “I haven’t spoken to him (Shreyas Iyer about captaincy) yet, I tried to call him before the auction but he didn’t pick up. He’s been a successful captain in IPL before, I worked with him for 3-4 years in Delhi and he was the championship winner last season. I’m delighted to work with him again, if he can do that for us in the IPL I’ll be pretty happy.”
