Arshdeep Singh took 19 wickets for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024.

25-year-old left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh has risen to become India’s second-most reliable pacer currently, after Jasprit Bumrah, in T20 cricket.

Having made his T20I debut in 2022, Arshdeep has been a regular part of the Indian XI and is now among the top three T20I wicket-takers for India.

His best tournament so far in India colours was the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where he finished as the joint-leading wicket-taker in the competition, with 17 scalps at an average of 12.64 and an economy of 7.16. Arshdeep’s terrific performances throughout the tournament, including in the final against South Africa, helped India lift the title.

Arshdeep Singh sold to PBKS for INR 18 crores

PBKS exercised their RTM option and secured Arshdeep’s services once again for INR 18 crores.

CSK were the first team to bid for Arshdeeep at his base price of INR 2 crores and then DC came into the race. Both raised the bids to INR 7.5 crores, when CSK moved out. GT entered the fray and DC left the race, allowing RCB to join in. Taking over from these two were RR and SRH.

SRH got Arshdeep for INR 15.75 crore. PBKS executed their RTM card option. SRH then raised their bid to INR 18 crore and PBKS matched the bid to rope in Arshdeep.

Arshdeep Singh previously in the IPL

Arshdeep made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings in 2019 and has so far played all his IPL career at only one franchise. In 65 games, he’s snared 76 wickets with two four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

Arshdeep’s best IPL season, in terms of wickets, was the last edition: in IPL 2024, he picked up 19 wickets, yet he wasn’t retained by PBKS. He’s picked up 17 or more wickets in three of the last four IPL seasons.

His first three seasons at PBKS were at a salary of only INR 20 lakhs but PBKS retained him for INR 4 crore ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
