IPL 2025 mega auction: Lucknow Super Giants rope in Shahbaz Ahmed for 2.4 crores
Shahbaz Ahmed made 215 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024.
A left-handed batter and left-arm orthodox spinner, Shahbaz Ahmed is one of the most versatile all-rounders in the Indian domestic circuit. Shahbaz made his international cricket debut for India in an ODI game in 2022 against South Africa at Ranchi.
Shahbaz has scored 1149 runs and taken 62 wickets across 98 T20 games. Recently, he has added more powerful strokes to his game, to strengthen his role as a finisher in limited over games.
Lucknow Super Giants buys Shahbaz Ahmed for 2.4 crores
Shahbaz will join Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for INR 2.4 crores. Having a base price of INR 30 lakhs, Shahbaz attracted bids from a total of two franchises – Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH chased the player before ultimately taking the exit at INR 2.4 crores.
Shahbaz’s left-arm spin variation will be useful at the spin-friendly pitch of Ekana Stadium. Additionally, he will provide depth to the LSG batting lineup.
Shahbaz Ahmed previously in the IPL
Shahbaz Ahmed began his Indian Premier League (IPL) career with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2020. He made his debut in the same season against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Despite limited opportunities in the first season, Shahbaz impressed with his tight bowling discipline, maintaining an economy rate of just 7.3.
2021 was a breakthrough year for Shahbaz where he finished the tournament with seven wickets and an economy rate of just 6.5. His most memorable performance that year came against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) where he took three wickets in a single over.
Shahbaz moved to SRH in 2024, where he played an integral role in franchises run to the final. Shahbaz has made 536 runs and taken 21 wickets across 55 games in IPL career. He played the 2024 IPL season for a salary of INR 2.4 crores.
