A total of 31 South African players have been shortlisted for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. This two-day event will precede the 18th edition of the IPL scheduled from March 14, 2025.
The auction will feature a total of 577 players consisting of 367 Indians and 210 overseas players. Over 1500 players had registered themselves initially, but the list was trimmed down to 577 players after inputs from franchises.
The 10 franchises have a combined 204 slots available to fill comprising 70 overseas and 134 Indian players. Earlier the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had mandated all the IPL franchises to release the list of retained players by October 31. The 10 IPL teams retained a total of 46 players before the mega auction.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) have the highest budget of INR 110.5 crores for the auction whereas Rajasthan Royals, (RR) have the lowest budget of INR 41 crores. Additionally, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals are the only two franchises who have opted to retain six players.
