Mohammed Shami was released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Senior India seamer Mohammed Shami recently made his comeback to competitive cricket through the Ranji Trophy 2024/25. Shami had been sidelined from action for almost a year due to his ankle injury with which he played the World Cup 2023 and still managed to top the wicket-takers chart.

After the World Cup final in November 2023, Shami underwent a surgery at the start of 2024 and has missed all the international action so far, and also the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. He would be raring to make a comeback in the IPL 2025.

Until his injury last year, Shami was one of the best pacers in the world and had done superbly in tests, ODIs, and the IPL. With the national side, he has a vast experience of 64 tests and 101 ODIs and has taken close to 450 international wickets.

Mohammed Shami sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 10 crores

Mohammed Shami will be heading to 2024 IPL finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for a salary of INR 10 crores in the IPL 2025. SRH edged out Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to win the bidding war at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Interestingly Gujarat Titans (GT) opted against using their Right to Match (RTM) card on Shami.

Shami will partner with Australian captain Pat Cummins to form one of the most formidable fast bowling duos of the tournament.

Mohammed Shami previously in the IPL

Shami began his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders. He warmed the bench in the 2011 and 2012 seasons and made his IPL debut in 2013.

He was bought by Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in IPL 2014 and was with them until 2019 before Punjab Kings bought him for INR 4.8 crores, where he stayed for three seasons. At the IPL 2022 mega auction, Gujarat Titans purchased Shami for INR 6.25 crores.

He had two fantastic seasons for GT, picking up 20 wickets in IPL 2022 and 28 wickets in IPL 2023, bagging the Purple Cap in the latter. He missed the IPL 2024 season and was then released by GT.

Overall, Shami has snared 127 wickets in 110 IPL games.
