IPL 2025 mega auction: Umesh Yadav attracts no bids, remains unsold

Umesh Yadav picked eight wickets in IPL 2024 for Gujarat Titans.

Senior India fast bowler Umesh Yadav is one of the most experienced seamers currently in world cricket, though he finds himself out of the Indian squad right now.

Hailing from Nagpur, Umesh made his India debut in all three formats between 2010 and 2012 and was a regular feature under MS Dhoni’s captaincy across formats, while Virat Kohli mostly utilised his services in test cricket.

Yadav often was the enforcer during home test matches, where he bowled short spells with venom. He featured in 57 tests, picking up 170 wickets with three five-fors to his name.

He played 75 ODIs, in which he scalped 106 wickets, while he featured in only nine T20Is, snapping 12 wickets.

Umesh hasn’t played a test match for India since June 2023 and his last white-ball international came in October 2022.

Umesh’s name was brought up once during the IPL 2025 mega auction, but no franchise bid for the seamer and he went unsold. Umesh, though, could comeback in the IPL if any franchise ropes him in as a replacement player.

Umesh is one of the few pacers who were part of the early seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and are still active in the league. He made his IPL debut in 2010 for Delhi Capitals (then Daredevils). He was with Delhi until 2013.

In the 2014 auction, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), with whom he spent four seasons before moving to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where he spent three seasons.

After that, he made a return to Delhi Capitals and then to KKR before finding a new home at Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2024. Umesh played seven matches last season and managed eight wickets before being released by GT.

Overall, Umesh Yadav has picked up 144 wickets in 148 matches in the IPL with best figures of 4/23.
