RCB defeated KKR by seven wickets in the first match of the IPL 2025.

On Saturday, March 22, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) started the Indian Premier League (IPL) with a dominating seven-wicket win over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

After being asked to bat first, KKR got off to a brilliant start, reaching 107/2 in the first 10 overs. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led the innings with a brilliant half-century (56), hitting six sixes and four fours. He received support from Sunil Narine, who scored 44 off 26 balls.

The RCB bowlers pulled things back in the second half of the first innings by taking wickets at regular intervals. Krunal Pandya starred for the visitors, recording 3/29 in his four overs. The home side were ultimately restricted to a below-par total of 174/8.

In reply, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli gave RCB an excellent start, adding 80 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay.

Both Salt (56) and Kohli (59*) registered half-centuries to guide RCB to a comfortable seven-wicket win. Rajat Patidar added some late fireworks, scoring 34 runs off just 16 balls. Sunil Narine was KKR’s most successful bowler with match figures of 4/27.

Thanks to his match-winning half-century in the run-chase, Virat Kohli leads the run-scorers’ chart with 59 runs. Rahane’s 56-run knock in his first game as KKR captain places him in the second spot, while Phil Salt is third with 56 runs.

Sunil Narine and Rajat Patidar complete the top five list with 44 and 34 runs respectively.

Yash Dayal, Sunil Narine, and Rasikh Salam occupy the third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively with one wicket each.
