IPL 2025: "As of now.." MS Dhoni spills beans on his future in the IPL

MS Dhoni leads CSK in IPL 2025.

MS Dhoni is the skipper of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. On Wednesday, May 7, he played a key role with the bat to drive his team to victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). After the match, he revealed about his future plans in the IPL.

The KKR vs CSK clash took place at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While the Super Kings are out of the race for the playoffs, the Knight Riders still have a thin chance to make it to the top four. However, CSK minimized their chances in the 57th match by crushing them by two wickets in a thrilling encounter.

Opting to bat first, the home team posted 179/6 in the first innings; thanks to decent knocks by Ajinkya Rahane (48), Andre Russell (38), and Manish Pandey (36*). During the chase, CSK lost both their openers for ducks. However, Dewald Brevis slammed a stunning fifty while Shivam Dube scored 45 runs to keep the winning hopes alive. Dhoni smacked a crucial six off Andre Russell’s final over to bring the team home.

Nothing for me to decide as of now: MS Dhoni on IPL retirement

During the post-match presentation, Dhoni shed light on his future in the IPL. The wicket-keeper batter said he cannot take a call right now. He will work hard on his fitness for a few months after IPL 2025 and then decide whether to return to the tournament or not.

“I only play two months in a year and now after this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another six to eight months just to see if my body will be able to take this kind of pressure and everything. So nothing for me to decide as of now, but I feel the love and affection wherever I’ve been,” said CSK skipper, who will turn 44 years old in July this year.

Notably, Dhoni was retained by CSK as an uncapped player for IPL 2025 and was signed by for INR 4 crores. Ruturaj Gaikwad led the side in the first five games. However, Dhoni took the reins of the side after Gaikwad was ruled out of the league due to an elbow injury.

Meanwhile, the CSK wicket-keeper batter has mustered 180 runs in 12 innings with a top knock of an unbeaten 30. He has a strike rate of 140.62 and has slammed 11 sixes this season. However, he completely failed with his captaincy as CSK became the first team to be eliminated from the playoffs race this season. CSK have won just three out of 12 games this season and have two games remaining to play.
