GT crushed MI by three wickets in match No. 56 of IPL 2025.

Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 56th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, May 6. The MI vs GT encounter took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. GT had a revised target of 147 runs to chase in a low-scoring thriller, which was affected by rain. They crushed the hosts by three wickets.

The match was affected by rain after the 18th over in the second innings. Hence, the chase was reduced by one over with GT getting a revised target of 147 runs off 19 overs, i.e. 15 runs off one over. GT opener Shubman Gill scored a good knock of 43 runs while Jos Buttler added 30 runs during the chase. MI pacers Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ashwini Kumar clinched two wickets each.

Earlier, GT won the toss and opted to bowl first. The visitors showcased a wonderful bowling attack to halt the home team for 155/8 in 20 overs. Will Jacks (53), Suryakumar Yadav (35), and Corbin Bosch (27) slammed the most runs for MI. However, many key batters lost their wickets for single digits.

Openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma lost their wickets cheaply, while key middle-order batters like Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, and Naman Dhir completely failed to go big and lost their wickets at low scores. Sai Kishore clinched two wickets for GT. The rest five bowlers stole one wicket each.

After the match No. 56 of IPL 2025, GT have jumped to top spot in the points table. They have 16 points and Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.793. On the other hand, MI have dropped to the fourth position after a defeat in the match. They own 14 points and NRR of +1.156.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take the second spot in the points table with 16 points. Punjab Kings (PBKS) grab the third place with 15 points. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) languish at bottom of the table with six and four points respectively. Both have been eliminated from the playoffs’ race. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who take the seventh spot with seven points, are another team out of the playoffs’ race.

IPL 2025: Most runs (Orange Cap)

Three GT batters and one MI batter find themselves in the list of top five highest run-scorers this season following the MI vs GT clash. MI’s Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 35 runs in the match, has jumped to the top spot with 510 runs.

GT batter Sai Sudharsan got out cheaply for five runs and now grabs the second position with 509 runs. Shubman Gill (503) and Jos Buttler (500) capture the third and fifth positions after hitting 43 and 30 runs respectively in the encounter. RCB batter Virat Kohli (505) grabs the fourth position.

IPL 2025: Most wickets (Purple Cap)

GT pacer Prasidh Krishna retained his top spot in the Purple Cap leaderboard after taking one wicket in the clash. He has increased his tally to 20 wickets. MI pacer Trent Boult picked two wickets in the match and has jumped to the third spot with 18 wickets.

Josh Hazlewood grabs the second position with an equal number of wickets but a better economy rate. Arshdeep Singh and Noor Ahmad grab the fourth and fifth places respectively with 16 wickets each.
