LSG defeated MI by 12 runs in match 16 of IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) crushed Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in a nail-biting clash of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday. The thrilling game went to the final over, where MI failed to score 22 runs needed for victory.

MI stalwart Suryakumar Yadav, playing his 100th game for the franchise, slammed a stunning half-century, but failed to bring the team home. Batting first in the match, LSG slammed a gigantic total of 203/8 in 20 overs. LSG openers Mitchell Marsh (60) and Aiden Markram (53) gave a stunning start to the hosts with fabulous fifties.

Later, Ayush Badoni (30 off 19) and David Miller (27 off 14) also made impressive contributions with the bat. MI skipper Hardik Pandya made a stunning effort with the ball and registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the IPL, conceding just 36 runs.

Pandya also scripted history by becoming the first ever captain in the IPL to claim a five-wicket haul. He also registered the best bowling figures by a captain in the IPL – 5/36. Apart from Pandya, Trent Boult, Ashwani Kumar and Vignesh Puthur scalped one wicket each for the visitors.

However, hero in MI’s first innings, Hardik Pandya, failed to chase 22 runs in the final over, resulting in a loss for the visitors.

After winning 16th match of IPL 2025, LSG have climbed up to sixth position with four points and Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.048. Meanwhile, MI have dropped down to seventh spot in the latest standings with two points and NRR of +0.108.

Punjab Kings still top the table with four points and NRR of +1.485. Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders follow next with four points each. Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad hold the bottom three spots respectively.

IPL 2025: Most runs (Orange Cap)

Although LSG batter Nicholas Pooran failed to make a mark against MI getting out for 12 runs, he is still the highest run-getter in IPL 2025 with 201 runs in four matches. Mitchell March, who slammed a quickfire fifty against MI, has jumped up to the second spot with 184 runs. Suryakumar Yadav, who played his 100th game for MI, now sees himself at the fourth spot with 171 runs in his kitty. He slammed a 67-run knock in the encounter. Gujarat Titans’ Jos Buttler rounds off the list of top five highest run-scorers with 166 runs.

IPL 2025: Most wickets (Purple Cap)

Hardik Pandya picked a phenomenal five-wicket haul in the clash against LSG to jump to the second spot in the Purple Cap leaderboard. He now holds the second spot with a tally of eight wickets. Shardul Thakur, who picked one wicket in the match, takes the fourth spot with seven wickets. CSK’s Noor Ahmad continues to rule the race with nine wickets to his name.
