Virat Kohli could make a return as RCB’s captain this year.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) COO Rajesh Menon has refused to reveal the player who will be leading the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
There is a huge layer of intrigue over RCB’s captain for the next season, even though the tournament is set to begin next month.
RCB were led by Faf du Plessis in the last three seasons but the franchise didn’t retain the South African before the IPL 2025 mega auction and didn’t buy him back as well.
There are different experienced people in the mix: RCB COO on captain for IPL 2025
The name of Virat Kohli has popped up to once again lead RCB. However, nothing is confirmed yet.
Heading into the auction, RCB had retained Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. In the mega auction, they purchased some senior international stars like Phil Salt, Liam Livingstone, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. These three players have some captaincy experience and are contenders to become RCB’s skipper this year.
The RCB COO, though, remained tight-lipped on this topic.
Speaking with Sports Today, Menon said, “Too early (to talk about it). There are different experienced people in the mix. So, we need to evaluate and come to a conclusion. It won’t be long before we come to that conclusion.”
Meanwhile, the legendary AB de Villiers feels Kohli is the best and only option to lead RCB this season.
De Villiers said in his YouTube video after the mega auction, “Friends, I think Virat Kohli is the only option [for RCB’s captaincy choice). He is near the end of his career, more inspired than ever before. Till the time he gets the form, and score runs, we are used to watching him play match-winning innings. It’s like a swansong.”
RCB squad for IPL 2025: Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Krunal Pandya, Rajat Patidar, Yash Dayal, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Rasikh Dar, Swapnil Singh, Tim David, Romario Shepherd, Manoj Bhandage, Jacob Bethell, Devdutt Padikkal, Swastik Chhikara, Lungi Ngidi, Abhinandan Singh, Mohit Rathee, and Suyash Sharma.
