IPL 2025 to restart next week; four venues to be shortlisted for remaining games- Reports

IPL 2025 was suspended by BCCI after 57 games.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, May 9, for a week. However, according to the latest reports, the tournament might restart next week. IPL 2025 was suspended by BCCI after a total of 57 games.
On Thursday, May 8, the 58th match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was halted midway due to technical issues at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala. The match was later abandoned and players were sent back safely to their team hotels due to security reasons. No team was awarded any points after the game.
Later, BCCI suspended remainder of the tournament with immediate effect amid the rising military tensions between India and Pakistan in the north and northwestern regions. However, in the wee hours of Sunday, May 11, both countries announced a ceasefire, and the situation is getting back to normal.
IPL 2025 to start next week at four shortlisted venues- Reports
According to a latest report in ANI, IPL 2025 is expected to restart next week. Also, BCCI is going to shortlist four venues to host the remaining games of the tournament.
“IPL will restart next week, in four venues. The venues will be shortlisted soon, and the venues of the qualifier, eliminator and finals are likely to remain the same. The tournament will resume with the match between RCB and LSG. The final venue could be changed as rain can affect the matches in Kolkata later, so this call will be taken accordingly,” a BCCI official was quoted as ANI as saying.
Earlier, some reports claimed that Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad are in contention to host the remaining games of IPL 2025. According to the original schedule Hyderabad and Kolkata were supposed to host the playoffs, including the final.
Hence, these four cities might host the rest of the games. However, BCCI is yet to make a final call on the venues of the remaining matches. A total of 16 games, excluding the PBKS vs DC abandoned game, are yet to be played in IPL 2025.
Currently, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) take the top two spots in the points table with 16 points each. PBKS and Mumbai Indians (MI) follow them in the third and fourth spots respectively. Before its suspension, IPL 2025 was observing a climax as some teams were on their way to book their berth in the playoffs.
However, no team has yet sealed a spot in the playoffs yet. The race to the playoffs is active among only seven teams as Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are already eliminated from the race to the top four positions in the points table.
