Rishabh Pant has been released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend Suresh Raina has made a massive prediction that former Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant would join the Yellow Army in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

In one of the most shocking and unexpected releases, Pant has been released by Delhi, a franchise he’s been part of all his IPL career since 2016.

Heading into the mega auction, the Capitals have retained Axar Patel (INR 16.50 crore), Kuldeep Yadav (INR 13.25 crore), Tristan Stubbs (INR 10 crore) and the uncapped Abishek Porel (INR 4 crore). The biggest name missing from their retention list was that of their skipper Pant.

Now, for the first time since 2016, Pant will be up for grabs in an IPL auction. Four franchises – Punjab Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru – are possibly on the lookout for a skipper in the auction. They could go hard after Pant.

However, one more franchise that could be in the race to sign Pant is Chennai. While the five-time champions have retained their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, they will soon need a new wicket-keeper to take the duties from MS Dhoni. With Jadeja on his way out in the coming years, they also need a finisher. These are two roles Pant could adeptly fill.

Will Rishabh Pant join CSK for IPL 2025?

Former batsman Suresh Raina feels that Pant will be bought by CSK in the auction. Speaking on Jio Cinema, Raina said, “I met MS Dhoni in Delhi, Pant was also there. I think something big is to happen. Someone will be wearing a yellow jersey soon.”

The chances of CSK being able to buy Pant, though, are slim as they have INR 55 crore in their purse after retaining Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 18 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (INR 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (INR 13 crore), Shivam Dube (INR 12 crore), MS Dhoni (INR 4 crore).
